Re: [TVHGC Members] Liddington Castle

I think the conversation has moved a long way on from that level of pedantry Steve,
But you answer your own question. When a club (or school) registers a site they state the wind direction(s) they consider it to be "usable" within. That is the "guide" to pilots and is recorded at the Office on the database. Risk assessments are also drawn up but clubs retain these and they are not filed at the Office, (only the RAs for School sites are filed at the Office).
Given that Liddington is one of the TVHGC sites that is designated for use by schools there (by deductive reasoning) must be a risk assessment filed at the Office for that site, if not by TVHGC then by the School(s) using it. That risk assessment contains the detail of the usability limits, as determined by the creator of the RA.

In general:

Any system of recorded data needs a review cycle to ensure it is complete, relevant and up to date.

There is a new database system being implemented and it is, perhaps, a good moment to trigger a review.

An incident on a site is also a good trigger for reflection and review. (as per this discussion among others).

The precise detail of the nature of a system, its input fields, data range and processing are (ought to be) dictated by the needs of the user not the other way round. At least they should be for a system to be fit for purpose. If you think you have identified a shortfall in the system you need to take that to the technical department with a request for a fix, update or new feature.

If you have any detailed knowledge of the aerology of Liddington or any other site lore that would usefully contribute to those of us seeking site guidance beyond "fly if it feels right" then do please contribute it here.

:-)

For the benefit of those seeking some guidance as to what is flyable and what is less so, I have established, from the BHPA sites database that Liddington is registered as "usable" between 220 and 340 degrees.

This seems to conflict with our sites guide which indicates two distinct sectors of "usability", one facing NW the other SW +- about 15 degrees.

Please ask yourself where the figures on the BHPA database came from? Are they divine provenance, or did they, in all probability, come from the TVHGC, who passed them onto the BHPA at some point in the past?

Did the original BHPA template perhaps only have range of values for the site?
