Hi Stephen,
You don't need to use GPS dump to download from a Kobo. Just connect it to you computer via USB, start it as a standard reader (Nickel on the start menu), wait for it to be recognised (Connect to computer), then use you usual file browser to copy the IGC file from the log folder found under XCSoarData. Having copied the file to a suitable location you can then open it in GPSDump if you want to convert it to other formats.
