Sorted it by reverting the baud rate down to 9600 nothing all faster baud rates dont work :-(

For info...the way I installed it:

1) is first take a backup image of the SDcard - lots of info out there on doing that. If you have a Mac use dd command in the console.

2) In XCsoar Nickle mode I copied the LK8000 directory from my old LK device (or Richards provided his) and pop tit in the root directory of the SDcard. So the folder sits along with the XCsoar folder. So all config and tasks and logs etc will now go in the LK8000 folder.

3) Download the LK KoboRoot beta testing file (contains the LK s/w) from the link above or from the developer link on ParaglidingForum and popped that in the hidden directory/folder called .kobo. Same as we did for XCsoar first time. If you want to switch back to XCsoar you put the KoboRoot file for XCsoar back in the .kobo directory and it will install it again. You can download the XCsoar KoboRoot to return it from the XCSoar website.

4) Unmount / unplug the USB cable and it should auto restart the Kobo and install the new software and LK8000 will start up.

To get access to the folder again via USB to upload tasks, maps etc. you restart the Kobo with the USB cable attached and it will ask if you want to connect it to the computer. You can also do that whilst on the splash screen of XCsoar before you hit FLY.

If anyone has the BlueFly Baro/GPS then it needs to be switched to properly work but works very well. You need to change Outputmode to 1 which is for LK8000. I connect to the Kobo using Telnet and changed that parameter on the BlueFly. Details on the BlueFly website on doing that.

The command for Kobo Mini is: echo '$BOM 1*'>/dev/ttymxc0

If you want your Kobo to look like Richard's setup you just need to copy the contents of Richards _configuration folder over the top of the contents of the existing Kobo _Configuration folder. If you have your devices set up already I suggest you dont copy the DEFAULT_DEVICE.dvc over as it is hardware specific. Also leave the History.txt.
Dont copy the _Language, _Logger or the _Polars folders.
As for the contents of the _Maps, _Tasks and _Airspace it doesnt matter. If you haven't already got these populated copy Richards.

It should be fairly identical to XCSoar in screen layout as its the same base code, as Richard says the test Kobo version isn't finished yet. Where is differs is in the user input XCS has slightly different ways to interact e.g. zoom... designed to be simpler to use with PGing (one button clicks rather than swipe) especially with frozen hands ;-)

That reminds me one other feature LK has is screen lock, which has been missing for XCsoar (unless someone says it's recently been added). Basically LK can lock the screen to avoid options and screens being tampered with by our PG/HG kit during launch. Once airborne it automatically disables the screen lock. I've always missed this on XCS.

LK8000 isnt a finished product yet. The version people are trailing is just a pre-release test version of a port of the established Windows version over on to Linux, but it does seem pretty stable. Only time will tell if everything works as it should.
