Nick Smith – Paragliding: A sailplane pilot's perspective

Our May meeting was a great opportunity to have Chris Pittaway lead a discussion on clouds, and the thorny issue of cloud flying. The rest of the evening saw us wrestle with topics such as 'How to assess flying days' and 'Decent techniques – what people use and when'. This was a change from our usual programme as there was no audience, only participants. And dare I say, a great evening was had by all!

Our next meeting continues the theme of applying personal experience to the world of paragliding and hang gliding. We're delighted to have Nick Smith, our club Safety Officer, present on paragliding: a sailplane pilot's perspective

His talk will look at paragliding performance, soaring techniques, XC strategy, club atmosphere and flying adventures from the perspective of a newcomer to the sport with half a lifetime of sailplane flying. It's good to understand other air users and as hang glider and paraglider performances gets ever better, there may be some lessons and techniques we can learn from our white-winged colleagues.

Our club meetings are opportunities to meet other club pilots, discuss current issues, learn a little something from the presenters, but most of all they're great nights to just kick back and enjoy great company. If you want to talk flying, . . .

Good food and refreshments are available at the Swan Inn from 6.30pm. See you there!
