If you’re not taking part in the Gin Wide Open or any other FAI comp this year, then please feel free to ignore this!
For the rest, especially the comp newbies like me, it might be an idea to check that you have got your FAI Sporting Licence sorted. The reason for this message now is that my BHPA membership renewal form came through the post today. The FAI Sporting Licence is one of the many hurdles that we have to get over to have a successful comp. No FAI Sporting Licence = no competition! The FAI Sporting Licence is valid until your next BHPA membership renewal, so don’t buy one until your membership is up for renewal, if that is before the comp.
The FAI Sporting Licence application can be found here, costs £11 and I’m popping the application back to the BHPA with my renewal slip. The licence is then valid for 1 year. Don’t confuse this with the IPPI card, which you also get from the BHPA and which also costs £11, but which lasts indefinitely. While it might be a good idea to have an IPPI card to prove your rating equivalent abroad you do not need one for this comp. Just to reiterate what the Gin Wide Open position is here: “Whilst an IPPI card is not required, a sporting licence is required for this event.” (taken from the Gin Wide Open FAQ).
Hope that helps!
Chris
