Re: [TVHGC Members] Now Oxford want an RMZ...

Both Brize and Oxford proposals are being responded by TVHGC in the controlled way we have done in the past using a pack of documentation for these situations in due course, this was discussed in our committee meeting last week.   As I understand it Oxford plans won't make a significant difference to XCs whereas Brize definitely will.

We'll keep you posted.

It could also be an issue in a Westerly from some Avon sites (Frocester).

Re: [TVHGC Members] Now Oxford want an RMZ...

From pilot web:

London Oxford Airport is currently running a consultation regarding the application of a radio mandatory zone (RMZ) for air traffic operations to the north of the airport

So perhaps it won't affect flights from Milk?

Re: [TVHGC Members] Now Oxford want an RMZ...

This is one of the areas where we are on our own with the other bodies (BMAA, LAA, BRA, BGA, BBAC and other GA) preferring an RMZ over any other form of regulation, simply because a large number of them already have airband radios fitted, and it's a simple call up with no need for permissions or accepting directions, although I gather Southend are handing out the same.

So they will be very little help to us, as they have different objectives.

I can only assume that the TVHGC is acting on this one, with Tom Hardie, possibly the first step to show how many flights go through there, and to explain that they have not even considered us in their application.

Two extracts to ponder:

1.

Local Gliding Sites and Private Strips - Any glider sites and private strips within the proposed RMZ will require Letters of Agreement (LOAs) written to establish joint responsibilities and actions, but there is no intention to adversely affect their current operating practices.

2.

Non-Radio Aircraft - Although the airspace will be designated as an RMZ, non-radio-equipped aircraft will not be restricted from using it. However, operators of non-radio aircraft will be required to co-ordinate their flight with Oxford ATC via land line prior to getting airborne.

Hopefully the TVHGC will be holding Oxford to this promise and will get a LoA that will mean a maximum of one phone call a day to declare a site active and downwind flights to be on.
