Re: [TVHGC Members] Fwd: Exemption from footlaunch of SPHG

It applies to all aircraft defined as sphg. The difficulty phg may have is complying with the terms of the policy and remaining under 70kg unladen fully fuelled. The craft must be able to be returned to foot launch "with simple tools" this is easy with a standard paramotor bolted to a buggy and there are several makes on the market. Not so with phg. So in theory it does apply but needs someone to come up with a system that satisfies the criteria.

Dear All who have espressed an interest in promoting to your local pilots the CAA exemption that I have obtained from foot launching a paramotor with wheels.

The CAA now have a policy in place and a simple procedure to obtain this exemption. It is available to anyone whose doctor or medic provides a letter stating that the pilot is advised not to continue to foot launch for whatever reason. This can be as simple as a bad back who is advised not to lift heavy objects or as serious as paralysis of the legs etc.

You may have already heard that a high profie pilot flying from Russia to UK, having twisted her knee on a launch early on in the expedition, was granted a CAA exemption within hours of applying so that her flights were UK legal and therefore legal in foreign countries too. The CAA are very happy to grant these exemptions and see it as a stepping stone to allowing paramotors on wheels for all. Congratulations to Sacha for her achievement and what a brilliant justification of the need for this exemption!!!!!!!

I am writing to you as you represent many local pilots who may benefit from this new policy. I know some have already started the process for some of your local pilots. If you need any help or further explanation let me know. I have example copies of doctor's letter and the policy document and the address to write to for your exemption.

The more pilots who apply for this the sooner we can argue that paramotors with wheels should be regulated the same as all other paramotors and we can open up the sport and the training to a much wider population. particularly women and youngsters.

Good luck woth your alications and pass this message on to others who can help promote this policy to the benefit of pilots not so able to foot launch.

Please feed back to me any applications you know of (if the pilot is willing) so I can keep track of the progress of this exciting development. The more who apply the more mainstream this bocomes.

Pass this on to at least one other trainer or club official not already on the mailing list if you can.

Re: [TVHGC Members] Club Coach Course reminder

Hi Francis,

£15 max for the facilities (closer to 10 if I get more attendees) plus 30 for a first timer or 20 for a renewal. That bit's the bhpa fee.

It's being held at Bicester Airfield in the gliding club and there is also still 1 space free in the accommodation there at £10 for the night. [TVHGC Members] BFR 2016 Thanks

Folks,

I would like to convey the thanks from Thames Valley Air ambulance for the
money we raised £500.30 pounds we raised at this year's Big Fat Repack. An
additional £126.26 was raised by staff on the TAFMIS project. The majority
of this this year's donation was gift aided.

As one of the organisers of the Big Fat Repack for the last 11 years I would
like to thank all the great people that have help me out over the years;
many are not even members of the club and travel considerable distance just
to help out at their own expense. Hopefully the various safety handouts, bag
labels/site cards and site signs have been helpful.

All the best,

Chris

For the evening we have an overview of how the club is doing, food and mince pies paid for by the club, the opportunity to get involved or vote for your next committee, along with a presentation from Adrian Thomas ( Flying expert, part of the Gin design team etc).

The evening takes place at the Swan Inn (RE17 9DX for your satnavs), and kicks off with food at 6.30. The main meeting will start around 7.15pm with club news, prizes and awards, followed by the committee vote. Adrian's talk, covering paraglider development, comp rules, bronzes and all sorts will round off a splendid evening.

Should be a great night.

[TVHGC Members] TVHGC Big Fat Repack (BFR) 2017

Hi all,

We've gone firm on the date of Sunday 26th March 2017 for our famous Big Fat Repack in Reading. Finding a suitable date depends on the availability of the Rivermead sports hall, Bill's parachute packing team etc and I'm sorry it coincides with Mothering Sunday again but we hope the advance notice helps. More details to follow in the New Year.

The committee would be delighted for offers of help, particularly from those skilled with ropes. Just drop a line to one of us.

[TVHGC Members] Thames Valley Club Coach Course

Dear Thames Valley Members,

I am pleased to tell you that we have secured classroom space for our upcoming Club Coach course at Bicester Airfield, hosted by Windrushers Gliding Club. The course will take place over the weekend of 14/15 Jan 2017 and I would urge everyone to consider coming along and taking part. The cost of the course will be borne by the Club for current Thames Valley members and I am in the process to securing deals on refreshments, meals, accommodation and access to the Gliding Club bar for those participating. It promises to be an excellent weekend.

As the most active and best HG and PG Club in the country I feel that we should have a strong base of skilled, active and enthusiastic coaches in order to provide for the progression of our Club and continued safe and successful flying. Do not feel that by becoming a Club Coach you will spend your whole life teaching on the hill instead of flying. This is a qualification that means you can share your knowledge with confidence, be that assisting someone with launch technique, talking about approach and landing or how to thermal or fly XC. I will be attending and really look forward to the new outlook it will bring both to my flying and the way in which I can pass my enthusiasm for our sport on to others. At the very least I hope to gain a new outlook on flying and improve my own technique, thought processes and skills.

This course will be well attended by pilots from all across the country and I will be contacting other clubs in the near future to let them know about it, so please contact me as soon as possible if you would like to take part so I can ensure the maximum benefit for Thames Valley members and to discuss arrangements for transport and accommodation. Contact me at glidingnick@hotmail.com or safety@tvhgc.co.uk and I’ll add you to my growing list of attendees. There are limited places so please don’t hesitate.

Kind regards,

Nick Smith

The club is run by a committee of volunteers. We need more people to join the team to replace those that are standing down. In fact all of the positions are up for re-election. Below are the committee roles with an indication of whether we have a candidate for the role in 2017.

Chairman - one candidate
Secretary - one candidate
Treasurer - one candidate
Chief Coach - one candidate (not confirmed)
Communications/ Technical - NO candidate
Safety - one candidate
Sites - one candidate
Membership - one candidate
Social - NO candidate
Competitions - NO candidate
BFR Coordinator - NO candidate

You do not need to be an experienced pilot to be on the committee! If you feel that you can give some of your time to help the club please contact me or another committee member.

Thanks!
Rich

[TVHGC Members] Re: Plains thermalling trip to Dordogne, October.

Just returned from Dordogne/Charante after a very successful 10 days of winching and paramotoring. We have set up a tow site near Angouleme in th eheart of the plains where the site has yeilded 130km xc in smooth plains thermals. The site also allows paramotoring and there are several local clubs and schools operating there with a very friendly and welcoming attitude.

We will be going down again several times next year and individuals can go at any time to the family friendly hosts and enjoy a holiday that includes flying, or groups of pilots on a flying trip.
If ayone wants to see some of what we got up to ........................

Some pictures here..............

Travel cost would be £100 including ferry (overnight) and accommodation is 32.50 a night in a shared room, self catering or meals extra. No charge for the winching (except shared petrol to run it) as this is a setting-it-up trip. If it works we will be offering it as a flying holiday venue next year for individuals, groups and schools/guides. I was there in August and it was phenomenal with good lift every day from 10:30 onwards!! Flew every day for two weeks. Will also be taking paramotors and can offer paramotor conversion training during the 10 days we are there. Sorry no hang gliders this time as I am only experienced in PG winching. If you don't have a tow rating we can do your training and sign you off. Andy Shaw may use this venue for his Thermal Chasers and may join us later in the week if so he is a HG winchman. The venue is one hour from Dune de Pyla if you like that sort of thing.

This is the time of year when Cloudbase Paragliding like to get their annual Colombia Adventure finalised, so here is some information for those of you who would like to escape the post New Year blues and join us for our 2017 adventure.

For those who have not been to Colombia before, it really is a stunning flying arena and a cultural delight. Others are doing similar.

I would like to encourage the use of John's place for accommodation as he is the local "fixer" of the flying venue(s) and paramotor routes and land outs for us.
