[TVHGC Members] Garmin GPSmap 78 s

Despite updating the software to version 5.9, I am unable to write the TVHGC XC waypoints to my Garmin from GPS Dump via the USB interface. My Garmin does however interface to Garmin Basecamp on my PC (Microsoft Vista).  Can anyone help, please.
 
I'll be at the BFR with my GPS, if that helps.

[TVHGC Members] BFR 2015

Just a quick reminder that it is the TVHGC BFR this Sunday, the 15th March.

 

For those that don't know, BFR stands for Big Fat Repack which is a safety event that has been run by TVHGC for 20 years now and was the first of its kind. It gives you a chance to test your rescue system and throwing technique in a safe environment on our zip wire. You then get advice and a helping hand if needed on how to re-pack your reserve from BHPA registered re-packers.

 

Your reserve is not your second chance but your last chance if all else goes wrong in flight. Despite the length of time the BFR has been running we still see around a 5% failure rate of rescue systems at the event. This is either down to pilot's technique (lack of training and practice), reserve problems (packing etc) or harness reserve incompatibilities.

 

There are still places left but they are going fast so don't delay, we are accepting bookings until lunchtime on Friday to allow time for BHPA membership checks. This event is open to both TVHGC members and also non-members although BHPA membership is a requirement (day membership can be taken out if necessary).


This is a pre-booked event only, strictly no admittance on the day, so please don't just turn up hoping to get in as you will be disappointed.

 

One day, having attended the BFR might just save you from becoming another statistic!

The Kobo runing XCSoar or LK8000 will display the airspace side view just like the Oudie3 and does nearly as much as the Oudie3  but costs a quarter of the price :-)
Again XCSoar and LK800 is a very mature product  developed mostly by glider pilots for competitions and general flying. LK8000 is just being ported to run on the Kobo but basically is a derivative of XCSoar focused more for paragliders.

I have made kobo last year and I was flying with  that also in comps. 
But if you are planning to buy a good device all around with great vario I would recommend Oudie3 by Naviter. I saw this before, actually one of the prototypes was in my hands a few years ago when my xc guide was testing one of them for naviter. So, the product was preety much finished 10 years ago and tested thoroughly by glider pilots. The founders of the company are glider pilots and programmers. Slovenian competition pilots were testing the device and suggested changes. We were with a couple of guys on the event organized by Flybubble and had a chance to play with Oudie3. Something which is great for uk flying is a way to display vertically the airspace with you in relation to that, scale changeable. This is not an advert by the way, I just like this instrument:)

tethering from my phone.
